Buddy Needs Someone to Love
The area where our office is located at Wotton in Christ Church has become a haven for illegal dumping; from burnt out vans to fridges and stoves, mattresses and dead animals. Approximately two weeks ago some inhuman person dumped a box in the cart road that leads to our office. On investigation, it was discovered that inside this box was a dog tied up in a sheet - still alive. He was in such a bad state - so dehydrated you could count every bone on his body, very weak, unable to walk and hardly able to raise his head. This poor animal had maggots on his flesh and was close to death.
We nicknamed this adult male (approximately seven years old) “Buddy”. He is black with some gray around his chin and has the saddest face you could ever want to see – a picture of total neglect. We fed and watered him and one of my colleagues put Buddy in his car and took him to the R.S.P.C.A. We thought the only thing they could do, would be to put this poor animal to sleep.
The staff at the R.S.P.C.A. (bless them) have worked with Buddy and within two days he was up and about but still very weak. He has been diagnosed with cancer of the scrotum and the doctors feel that with a full castration they may save him. Buddy is now looking for a home.
If only this dog could talk, he would be able to tell us who the inhuman, heartless, sick person is that was so cruel and unkind to him. It doesn’t matter who they are, they should be charged for this cruel, and vicious act. What upsets me the most is to think that here, on Barbados, this beautiful little island that we call ‘our own’ where we are known for our friendliness, hospitality and honesty, that there are such heartless, sick people.
I hope that some kind person will adopt Buddy and give him the love and affection he so deserves. At our office we have already adopted four strays so we are unable to take Buddy.
To the person who did this, I pray for you.
A Plea to YOu From All Dogs
- Please - let us have fresh water available all of the time.
- Please - don’t leave us alone for hours, we NEED COMPANY.
- Please - feed us daily with food that we like and is good for us.
- Please - don’t get us too hot, we may die – we can’t sweat like you.
- Please - don’t keep us locked up in a box or kennel for hours, we need to stretch, move, play, exercise
- Please - don’t keep us tied up for hours, we hate it.
- Please - help us to stay at home – we are not good at understanding boundaries. We need fences. We can’t help wandering off, perhaps inadvertently causing accidents or distress to ourselves or others. We don’t mean to cause trouble but we can’t read signs.
- Please - help us to not have too many puppies. We will try to look after our puppies but there are not always enough humans to help us. We don’t want our unwanted offspring to suffer.
- Please - educate us, but first, educate yourself. We love to learn and to please you but make sure we can understand your instructions, we don’t think like you do.
- Please - help us if we are sick or need expert medical care.
- Please - try to learn to “think like us”.
- Please - love us, cuddle us, talk to us in silly voices if you like. If you love us, all of the above will be easy and none of us will be hurt or lonely again.
- Please - pass on this plea to other humans.
