As this wonderful Christmas Season approaches and 2009 comes to an end, we not only celebrate our blessings but pause also to look back on what we have achieved throughout the year.
When we hold our Annual General Meeting early in the New Year, you will receive a detailed report on all of our results but I will tell you now that The Ark has had a very successful 2009.
We settled into our new facilities very nicely with tremendous help from our staff and volunteers. However, what is more important is that we rescued and re-homed a very impressive number of our four-legged friends and we are very proud of our results.
Now, the only thing left for me is to wish all of you a wonderful holiday with your families and friends and good health in the coming year.

The Ark held our first Christmas Market at Lion Castle on Saturday 7th November. This event was the brain-child of Liz Cole, our Vice President and the foundation of planning was well on the way when, due to an emergency, Liz had to drop everything and head for Florida.
Final planning fell to Jo Gamblin and there were approximately 40 participants who had stalls selling wonderful items from jewellery to beautiful plants.
With a hard-working, dedicated group of volunteers, The Ark ladies produced over 300 delicious teas and there were quite a few people who came back for seconds!
Mitch Moore organised the collection of entrance funds at the gate and there was great help with the parking from a cheerful band of "Ark men".
All in all, a very successful evening with many ideas to make the event bigger and better for 2010! Many visitors expressed their hope that this will be an annual event.
Our very special thanks to Kent and Liz Cole for their generous donation of the Lion Castle Clubhouse which made a delightful venue for the Market.

POISON ALERT!
Did you know ...
This is a very sad case - great dog and great owners,
who had no idea that raisins could be a toxin. The
dog was a 56 pound mixed breed Labrador, 5 year old
neutered male, who ate half a cannister of raisins.
Poison Control said as few as 7 raisins or grapes could
be toxic. Many people give their dogs grapes or
raisins as treats, including handlers. Any exposure
should give rise to immediate concern.
Over a period of three days this
dog was hospitalized but in the
end, due to acute renal failure,
his owner had to euthanize him.
